
COOL CRUISE CHILI COOK-OFF RULES AND INTANGIBLE GUIDLINES
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
7:00 a.m. Competition area opens. Teams begin set-up of their designated area.
Be sure to have a pot of strong coffee or other necessary eye-opener.
8:00 a.m. Head cooks meeting. Review of cooking and health rules, judging criteria and critical timelines (especially sample turn in time), and other relevant and unnecessary information.
10:30 a.m. - Public sampling of chili begins.
10:30 a.m. - COMPETITION SAMPLES TURNED IN
3:00 p.m. - Awards presentation
WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING
High energy level, dedication to have fun with reasonable level of competition.
A really big pot of chili. The more you make, the more you can sell and the more money you make for charity. Teams will be allowed to prepare chili ahead of time in order to have sufficient amount available by time public sampling begins. Be sure to discard the cans before you arrive.
Heating/cooking propane fueled burner with sufficient capability to maintain food at a temperature of at least 165 degrees. Be sure to bring additional propane fuel as needed.
FIRE DEPARTMENT REQUIRES EACH TEAM TO HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN BOOTH AREA.
Tables, canopy, cutting boards, ice chest to keep "secret ingredients" properly chilled. Note that Event Chairman retains right to "sample" any properly chilled secret ingredients.
Signs identifying your team.
A bowl of Tums or Rolaids sufficient for public needs.
EVENT PROVIDES
Designated chili-competition area, minimum 15' x 20'.
Cups and spoons for public samples.
Judges sample containers.
Receptacle for Peoples' Choice tickets.
Stevens' Hope staff will be selling tickets for public sampling.
SOMEWHAT OFFICIAL RULES AND GUIDELINES
Rule # 1 is to have fun............
2nd Rule # 1 is to raise a lot of $$$$$ for Stevens' Hope for Children.............
All cooks and staff preparing chili must be minimum18 years of age.
Chili should be cooked "from scratch". Commercial chili mixes (just add meat) are not permissible.
Each pot of chili must have a nearby sign identifying the "name" of the chili and competing team.
No fillers, such as macaroni, rice, hominy or other similar ingredient are not permitted in judged sample. Fillers may be added in moderation to public sample batch.
Team captains are responsible to assure that all team members maintain proper sanitation and reasonable sobriety at all times during competition.
Event staff may inspect competition area at any time during the day. Any team found not having fun will be subject to disqualification.
Team captain may be required to sample taste their own team chili at any time.
Event chairman is authorized to accept any and all bribes, cash (no coins please), credit cards, checks and any other legal tender in the name of Stevens' Hope. All bribes will be considered at time of award presentation. (see 2nd Rule # 1 above)
Teams are allowed to purchase tickets in order to vote for other teams, or themselves (see 2nd Rule # 1 above again). Remember, the team collecting the most tickets wins the People's Choice Award.
All decisions of the judges and Event Chairman are final, so no crying or sniveling.
